We have seen online some sources say a new moon was sighted the night of 8/22/2017 as was expected. However, for the circle of people we gather reports from first-hand and can interview, we only got sightings the night of 8/23 and none were reported on 8/22/2017. We don’t go by sightings we cannot interview people and talk to them first-hand because we want to make certain that we are reporting new moon sightings where no binoculars are used. Although some sites say they don’t use binoculars, sometimes there is a difference of opinion in what that means. Some people say they saw it with the naked eye, but then if you get into the details you find out yes, they did sight it with the naked eye, but they first used binoculars to find it. They feel that is acceptable as long as it’s visible with the naked eye also. Due to these kinds of details which we can’t, 100% for certain verify with people we cannot speak with, we do not go by sightings from people we cannot talk to first-hand.
