Question Asked By Website Visitor: Who do you support in the ______ War?
Answer: Fill in the blank with any conflict you want to know about.
- War is a multi-faceted topic.
-
War will not exist when Yahushua rules which shows that Yahweh's perfect will includes zero war.
- However, that time of peace will be after He's vanquished all of His enemies and they're all asleep in the dust of the land, essentially, and Satan is locked up.
-
War is also a difficult topic because Yahushua taught to turn the other cheek. (Matthew 5:39)
- How can you lift a hand against anyone on the planet while simultaneously being required to turn the other cheek if they harm you and seek their salvation? (Matthew 28:18-20)
-
Yet we know from Scriptures, Yahweh Himself is the one who decides when a nation is to be "plucked up" or "pulled down" from Jeremiah 18:7.
-
It is just a simple fact that Yahweh is the one who decides what wars can or cannot happen. (Jeremiah 18:7, Job 1:12, Job 2:6, Matthew 10:29)
- I believe some wars He "permits" which He doesn't agree with, but because He gives man freedom of choice to sin or not sin,
- and other wars He may cause to punish nations or pluck them up or establish another,
- and other wars He may cause or permit to happen in order to fulfill prophesy.
-
It is just a simple fact that Yahweh is the one who decides what wars can or cannot happen. (Jeremiah 18:7, Job 1:12, Job 2:6, Matthew 10:29)
-
Whomever Yahweh and Yahushua support, I support,
- and whomever they are against, I am against.
-
Who we are "for" or "against" or who we "support" should not be summed up by "picking sides" in a human war,
- because within each side in a war are humans, which are flawed, and each side may do things which are not righteous; even if the reality is that Yahweh will cause one side to win over the other for purposes that He has decided.
-
Each individual action of unrighteousness from either side may potentially face judgment of Yahweh - at His discretion
- - and that could be judgment on a national or on an individual level.
Can we say we support unrighteousness as believers? No. So that means any unrighteousness on any side of any war cannot be supported. But sometimes providential/Heavenly judgment from Yahweh doesn't come in a pretty package with a bow and doesn't make everyone happy - yet His judgment is righteous.
Questions like this, however, which ask, "who do you support" are convoluted and unclear:
- What does "support" mean?
- Does "support" mean financial support?
- Does "support" mean agreement with an ideological view of one side vs. the other?
- Does "support" mean willingness to take up arms and join one side?
- Or does "support" mean "I vote for people who enable the one I support to win"?
- Or is "support" more related to who I pray for?
When people ask general questions about "support" and they don't clarify what they mean, they leave a door open to gazillions of interpretations which I cannot possibly guess which of the gazillions they're assuming in their mind, and therefore answering such questions in a meaningful way is nearly impossible. However, the purpose of the questions portion of WYLH.org is more for Scriptural understanding anyhow and I'm only entertaining this question to be nice; but really I don't need to respond to these kinds of questions, because the purpose of the questions page is to understand the Bible better, not understand me better as a person who runs the site.
The other reason why we, as believers, need to be careful about making statements of "support" for a side or country, etc. is because the political landscape will be changing in the future, and in the future the "Beast Government" of the Scroll of Revelation will be established, and at that point, we, as believers, would see a different world around us and those previous statements of "support" will be outdated. Why make a statement of "support" to align yourself with something today that could be morphed into something different tomorrow? We should not align ourselves with worldly forms of support - in taking sides of wars in a worldly sense - because the only side that will be unchanged and remain true is the side with Yahweh and Yahushua.
Disclaimer: For the record: I don't vote. I don't get involved in politics. I'm focused on ministry alone - not politics. This is not a political site - this is a religious site. We are instructed by Matthew 5:44 to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us, not harm them, so that's how I would aim to treat someone if I am being physically persecuted - to seek their salvation. I mention this because some people may view this question as "politically related" instead of "Scripturally related" and then get confused on the purpose of this website. This is strictly a Biblical website to learn about the Scriptures - this is not a political website. But someone submitted a question similar to this and this is our public response from a purely "religious" standpoint.
