Sometimes fellow brothers in prison write to me and share their studies with me. The below study was written by brother Jack Washmon in the Texas TDCJ prison unit. This study written by Jack is called, “The Sign of Yonah”.
I have not finished reviewing this study in full, although I did have to type it out to make it available to you here since he had hand-written me a copy and mailed it to me. I cannot say for certain if I would word things exactly how he has or if I agree or disagree with all the things stated. However, I do think he brings to light some things worth considering and showing what looks like relationships between words in the Bible which may point to deeper meanings in what we’re reading in the Scriptures. Please do your own study, however, and understand that I am not the one who wrote this study. Here it is!
(Also – Please note that Jack did not include all the Scriptures text in his study but only provided the references to the Book Chapter and Verse in many cases because it is tedious to write out all this by hand. I supplied the text based upon verses he referenced to make it easier to follow along so that you don’t have to go look for yourself at the verses he refers to. I also did spell checking for him and minor editing to improve the grammar, etc.). I also changed his definition from the original study to what I consider accurate for the meaning of the name of Ya’aqov in parentheses.
The Sign of Yonah (Jonah)
By Jack Washmon
I would first like to be clear that I am not trying to diminish the importance of the 3 days and 3 nights that Yahushua laid in the grave (tomb) and I am certainly not disputing the fact that He was raised on the 3rd day. Instead, this study of “The Sign of Yonah”, I hope, will add to our faith in the resurrection and the power by which it was accomplished and will be accomplished in us.
From the first time I read this scripture concerning “The Sign of Yonah” I thought, “Father loves us and desires that no man would perish but that all would have everlasting life.” Therefore, this sign to a wicked and perverse generation must have the power to convict and to give life. Yahweh raised Yahushua from the grave by His resurrection power. By the power of His set-apart spirit.
This is where this study begins.
Matthew 16:1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying Him asked that He would show them a sign from sky.
2 And He answering, said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘Fair weather, for the sky is red,’
3 and in the morning, ‘Stormy weather today, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you are unable to discern the signs of the times!
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Yonah.” And He left them and went away.
Luke 11:29 And while the crowds were thronging, He began to say, “This generation is wicked. It seeks a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Yonah the prophet.
30 For as Yonah became a sign to the Ninewites, so also the Son of Adam shall be to this generation.
31 The sovereigness of the South shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and shall condemn them, for she came from the ends of the land to hear the wisdom of Shelomoh, and look, a greater than Shelomoh is here.
32 The men of Nineweh shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Yonah, and look, a greater than Yonah is here.
33 And no one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a hidden place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in shall see the light.
Matthew 16:1-4 and Luke 11:29-32 both give an account of the Sign of Yonah. Notice in Luke that Yahushua would be a sign to this generation (verse 30). Notice also that with this sign comes a spirit of conviction.
At this point, let’s define two words: “Sign” and “Jonah” (Yonah). We are using the Strong’s Concordance.
Sign: G4592 Semeion – indication, especially ceremonially or supernaturally: – miracle, sign, token, wonder.
Jonah G4058 Peristera; Of uncertain derivation; a pigeon: – dove, pigeon.
Yownah H3124 The same as H3123; Jonah, an Israelite: – Jonah.
H3123 a dove (apparently from the warmth of their mating): – dove, pigeon
So, could the “Sign of Jonah” also be called “The Sign of the dove”? If this is fair, then could there be further or deeper truth in “The Sign of Yonah”? If Peter (The Rock) or Ya’aqov (heel catcher) or The Valley of Baca (weeping) all hold deeper truth (not different truth, deeper truth), then is it possible that this sign does also? After all, it is the only sign that would be given.
Let’s have a closer look at the dove (Yonah).
Matthew 3:16 And having been immersed, Yahushua went up immediately from the water, and see, the skies were opened, and He saw the Spirit of Elohiym descending like a dove and coming upon Him,
John 1:32 And Yochanan bore witness, saying, “I have seen the Spirit coming down from sky like a dove and remain on Him.
33 And I did not know Him, but He who sent me to immerse in water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit coming down and remaining on Him, this is He who immerses in the Set-apart Spirit.’
Again, we see the spirit descend after baptism like a dove and remain on Him. This confirms that Yahushua would be the one to baptize with the set-apart spirit. Is this an indication of the dove? Or, “The Sign of Yonah”?
Isaiah 46:9 “Remember the former events of old, for I am El, and there is no one else – Elohiym, and there is no one like Me,
10 declaring the end from the beginning, and from of old that which has not yet been done, saying, ‘My counsel does stand, and all My delight I do,’
Tell us to go to the beginning to declare the end. So, let’s go to the beginning and seek the dove.
Genesis 8:4 And in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat.
5 And the waters decreased steadily until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible.
6 And it came to be, at the end of forty days, that Noach opened the window of the ark which he had made,
7 and he sent out a raven, which kept going out and turning back until the waters had dried up from the land.
8 Then he sent out a dove from him, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground.
9 But the dove found no resting place for its feet and returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of all the land. So he put out his hand and took it, and pulled it into the ark to himself.
10 And he waited yet another seven days, and again he sent the dove out from the ark.
11 And the dove came to him in the evening, and see, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in its mouth. And Noach knew that the waters had receded from the land.
12 And he waited yet another seven days and sent out the dove, which did not return to him again.
The dates are very significant, however, for this study, let us watch the dove. The dove was sent out the first time and found nowhere to land. Seven days pass (a completion of time). Again, the dove is sent out and lands on an olive branch (Note: Yahweh named Judah “green olive tree” – see Jer. 11:16) and brought back a leaf. Seven days pass. The dove is sent out; it does not return.
Jeremiah 11:16 “Yahweh has named you, ‘Green Olive Tree, Fair, of Goodly Fruit.’ With the noise of a great sound He has set it on fire, and its branches shall be broken.
I suspect that these three times point to three ages:
1) Before Yahushua came in the flesh
2) When he came in the flesh, and
3) When He ascended (This third age, I believe, needs further considerations. The possibilities are that maybe we are still in the 2nd age. Anyway – could this be a “Sign of Yonah”?)
Before we move on from Genesis, look at Gen 8:8.
Genesis 8:8 Then he sent out a dove from him, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground.
When [did] the dove land on the olive tree: After the flood! When did the dove descend upon Yahushua? After He came up out of the water. After baptism! Could Gen 8:8 be the same word that John received and spoke of in John 1:32-33?
John 1:32 And Yochanan bore witness, saying, “I have seen the Spirit coming down from sky like a dove and remain on Him.
33 And I did not know Him, but He who sent me to immerse in water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit coming down and remaining on Him, this is He who immerses in the Set-apart Spirit.’
Could this dove be an indication of:
1) To whom he would come?
2) And when this age would begin?
The following are a few possibilities to consider concerning three ages:
1st Age (1st 7)
Song of Solomon 2:14 “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the covering of the cliff, Let me see your appearance, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your appearance is lovely.”
Solomon asks to see the form of the dove in the cleft of the rock (also see Ex. 33:19-23). This is before the dove had a place to land.
Exodus 33:19 And He said, “I shall cause all My goodness to pass before you, and I shall proclaim the Name of Yahweh before you. And I shall favour him whom I favour, and shall have compassion on him whom I have compassion.”
20 But He said, “You are unable to see My face, for no man does see Me and live.”
21 And Yahweh said, “See, there is a place with Me! And you shall stand on the rock.
22 And it shall be, while My esteem passes by, that I shall put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand while I pass by.
23 Then I shall take away My hand and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”
2nd Age (2nd 7)
Matthew 3:16 And having been immersed, Yahushua went up immediately from the water, and see, the skies were opened, and He saw the Spirit of Elohiym descending like a dove and coming upon Him,
The dove descends upon Yahushua.
3rd Age (3rd 7)
Acts 2:31 foreseeing this he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Anointed, that His being was neither left in the grave, nor did His flesh see corruption.
32 Elohiym has raised up this Yahushua, of which we are all witnesses.
33 Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of Elohiym, and having received from the Father the promise of the Set-apart Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
34 For Dawid did not ascend into the skies, but he himself said, ‘Yahweh said to my Master, “Sit at My right hand,
35 until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” ‘
36 Therefore let all the house of Yisra’el know for certain that Elohiym has made this Yahushua, whom you impaled, both Master and Anointed.”
37 And having heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Kepha and the rest of the emissaries, “Men, brothers, what shall we do?”
38 And Kepha said to them, “Repent, and let each one of you be immersed in the Name of Yahushua Anointed for the forgiveness of sins. And you shall receive the gift of the Set-apart Spirit.
Although Yahushua goes to the Father, verse 33 says, “having received from the Father the promise of the Set-apart Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear”.
Next – let’s go to Song of Solomon and explore this symbol of a dove.
Song of Solomon 1:15 See, you are fair, my love! See, you are fair! Your eyes are as doves.
Song of Solomon 4:1 See, you are fair, my love! See, you are fair! Your eyes are as doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats, Going down from Mount Gil’ad.
Both refer to this person as, “eyes are as doves”. We have seen so far that the dove has been a symbol of the spirit. So, does this one see with spiritual eyes?
Song of Solomon 2:14 quoted earlier in this study is a desire to see and hear the dove. This is the beginning of a pursuit.
Song of Solomon 5:1 I have come to my garden, My sister, my bride; I have plucked my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends! Drink, and drink deeply, O beloved ones!
2 I was sleeping, But my heart was awake – the voice of my beloved! He knocks, “Open for me, my sister, My love, my dove, my perfect one; For my head is drenched with dew, My locks with the drops of the night.”
5:1-2 – Now it gets very interesting.
Verse 1 – He calls (vs) His Sister and spouse (He is our elder Brother as well as we are His Future Bride) Is verse 1 also an indication or reference to His preparations and death at Passover?
Verse 2 – The one who knocks is seeking the dove. Is this a reference to Shavu’ot and the giving of His Ruach HaQodesh or the symbolic dove?
Revelation 3:20 “See, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I shall come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20 – Says if any man knocks (seeking the dove) He will open the door and come in to Sup with Him.
Song of Solomon 6:9 My dove, my perfect one, Is the only one, the only one of her mother, The choice of the one who bore her. The daughters saw, and called her blessed, Sovereignesses and concubines, And they praised her.
And finally – 6:9 – Refers to “the undefiled dove, is but one”. This is a very obvious reference to Yahushua. But also notice how it relates to John 17:23. (Another Sign of Jonah?)
John 17:23 “I in them, and You in Me, so that they might be perfected into one, so that the world knows that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
Now let’s go back to the New Covenant scriptures and see what we find concerning “The Sign of Jonah”.
1st Yes, we know that Shimon Kepha was the son of Yonah. That is not in dispute. What I ask is that we consider a sign – an indication, of the dove (Yonah) in the spiritual sense.
Matthew 16:15 He said to them, “And you, who do you say I am?”
16 And Shim’on Kepha answering, said, “You are the Anointed, the Son of the living Elohiym.”
17 And Yahushua answering, said to him, “Blessed are you, Shim’on Bar-Yonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father in the skies.
Here Kepha is asked, “who do you say I am?” And Kepha says, “You are Messiah, the son (Ben) of the living Elohiym”. Yahushua responds to him in a strange way. He calls him “Simon Bar Yonah”. In other words, “Simon Son of the Dove, flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in the Shamayim.”
Again, in another instance where Yahushua is speaking to Kepha about Spiritual matters, about Kingdom matters:
John 21:15 When, therefore, they had eaten breakfast, Yahushua said to Shim’on Kepha, “Shim’on, son of Yonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yea, Master, You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”
16 He said to him again, the second time, “Shim’on, son of Yonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yea, Master, You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”
17 He said to him the third time, “Shim’on, son of Yonah, do you love Me?” Kepha was sad because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Master, You know all, You know that I love You.” Yahushua said to him, “Feed My sheep.
Yahushua calls him Simon Son of Yonah and asks him if he loves Him? Feed His sheep. Three times he repeats this. Why? Does He want him to know How, why, and by what power and authority he is to feed His sheep?
John 3:1 And there was a man of the Pharisees, Nakhdimon was his name, a ruler of the Yehudim.
2 This one came to Yahushua by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from Elohiym, for no one is able to do these signs You do if Elohiym is not with him.”
3 Yahushua answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born from above, he is unable to see the reign of Elohiym.”
4 Nakhdimon said to Him, “How is a man able to be born when he is old? Is he able to enter into his mother’s womb a second time and be born?”
5 Yahushua answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he is unable to enter into the reign of Elohiym.
6 That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You have to be born from above.’
Nicodemus was told that he must be born again of the spirit – And yet we are born into Sin and raised in idolatry. The only way out is to accept Yahweh’s sacrifice, Yahushua, and be born into the spirit. Is there any other indication? Any Sign?
So, as was said in the beginning, yes, the sign of Yonah is three days and three nights in the grave, but the greater sign is shown by what power he was saved and resurrected from the grave.
Acts 2:32 Elohiym has raised up this Yahushua, of which we are all witnesses.
33 Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of Elohiym, and having received from the Father the promise of the Set-apart Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
The power of Yahweh’s set-apart spirit! Is it fair to say, “By the power of the dove?” Are the three days and three nights a prophetic arrow that points to the power of the dove?
Psalms 55:1 Give ear to my prayer, O Elohiym, And do not hide Yourself from my plea.
2 Give heed to me, and answer me; I wander and moan in my complaint,
3 Because of the noise of the enemy, Because of the outcry of the wrong; For they bring down wickedness upon me, And in wrath they hate me.
4 My heart is pained within me, And the frights of death have fallen upon me.
5 Fear and trembling have come upon me, And shuddering covers me.
6 And I said, “Who would give me wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.
David offers a plea for help and in verse 6, (even if only subtly) he hints to the safety and rest he knows he would find in the wings of a dove.
This makes me think of Mat 23:37 when Yahushua said how he longed to gather them up in his wings:
Matthew 23:37 “Yerushalayim, Yerushalayim, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to her! How often I desired to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, but you would not!
Considering the great love that the dove has for us in Song of Solomon, it is very easy to relate these two scriptures to the very same dove.
If we are convinced by the word of Yahweh that the Dove is a symbol or may have symbolic meaning for the set apart spirit, then is it out of line to believe that Names have Literal meanings while at the same time hint at deeper meanings (Romez) or that we may find a Sod (Buried Treasure) in its meaning?
Now, the following are just a few of the signs, indications, that the power of the spirit, the same set-apart spirit, that resurrected Yahushua is still at work today.
Hebrews 8:10 Because this is the covenant that I shall make with the house of Yisra’el after those days, says Yahweh, giving My laws in their mind, and I shall write them on their hearts, and I shall be their Elohiym, and they shall be My people.
11 And they shall by no means teach each one his neighbour, and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know Yahweh,’ because they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
Through the same power of this resurrection, Yahushua has put Yahweh’s laws in our heart and mind. He has made us temples, Kings, and priests. How is that possible without the power of the Dove?
Hebrews 8:11 – He has given us a portion of His spirit to see and hear – to be taught, guided, etc..
Acts 1:4 And meeting with them, He commanded them not to leave Yerushalayim, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which you have heard from Me –
5 because Yochanan truly immersed in water, but you shall be immersed in the Set-apart Spirit not many days from now.”
Acts 1:4-5 tells us that they were to wait for the promise of the Father.
Hebrews 12:3 For consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and faint in your lives.
4 You have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 And you have forgotten the appeal which speaks to you as to sons, “My son, do not despise the discipline of Yahweh, nor faint when you are reproved by Him,
6 for whom Yahweh loves, He disciplines, and flogs every son whom He receives.”
7 If you endure discipline, Elohiym is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline?
8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become sharers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
9 Moreover, we indeed had fathers of our flesh disciplining us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they indeed disciplined us for a few days as seemed best to them, but He does it for our profit, so that we might share His apartness.
11 And indeed, no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but grievous, but afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Hebrews 12 – Tells us we are corrected and disciplined by this same spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:4 And there are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 There are different kinds of services, but the same Master.
6 And there are different kinds of workings, but it is the same Elohiym who is working all in all.
7 And to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for profiting,
8 for to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
9 and to another belief by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit,
10 and to another operations of powers, and to another prophecy, and to another discerning of spirits, and to another kinds of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues.
11 But one and the same Spirit works all these, distributing to each one individually as He intends.
12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is the Anointed.
13 For indeed by one Spirit we were all immersed into one body, whether Yehudim or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink into one Spirit.
14 For indeed the body is not one member but many.
15 If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” does it therefore not belong to the body?
16 And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” does it therefore not belong to the body?
17 If all the body was an eye, where would be the hearing? If all hearing, where would be the smelling?
18 But now Elohiym has set the members, each one of them, in the body, even as He pleased.
19 And if they all had been one member, where would the body be?
20 And now, there are indeed many members, but one body.
21 And an eye is unable to say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”
22 But much rather, those members of the body which are thought to be weaker are necessary.
23 And to those of the body which we think to be less respected, these we present greater respect. And our unseemly members have greater seemliness,
24 whereas our seemly members have no need. But Elohiym blended together the body, having given greater respect to that member which lacks it,
25 that there should be no division in the body, but that the members should have the same concern one for another.
26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is esteemed, all the members rejoice with it.
27 And you are a body of Anointed, and members individually.
28 And Elohiym has appointed these in the assembly: firstly emissaries, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, ministrations, kinds of tongues.
29 Are all emissaries? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles?
30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?
31 But earnestly seek the better gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
1 Corinthians 12 – Teaches us that this same spirit is given to profit all and goes on to describe the inner workings. Notice that we receive this after baptism? Remember Gen 8:8 and the dove that descended upon Yahushua – After baptism? Is this also a sign of Yonah?
John 17:21 so that they all might be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, so that they too might be one in Us, so that the world might believe that You have sent Me.
Acts 4:8 Then Kepha, filled with the Set-apart Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Yisra’el:
9 “If today we are called to account for a good deed towards a sick man, by whom he has been healed,
10 let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Yisra’el, that in the Name of Yahushua Anointed of Natsareth, whom you impaled, whom Elohiym raised from the dead, by Him this one stands before you, healthy.
11 “This is ‘the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’
12 “And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the sky given among men by which we need to be saved.”
Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they came together was shaken. And they were all filled with the Set-apart Spirit, and they spoke the word of Elohiym with boldness.
32 And the group of those who believed were of one heart and one being. And no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had all in common.
33 And with great power the emissaries gave witness to the resurrection of the Adon Yahushua, and great favour was upon them all.
34 For there was not anyone needy among them, for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of what was sold,
35 and laid them at the feet of the emissaries, and they distributed to each as anyone had need.
Acts 4 – This is an example of what Yahushua prayed for His disciples in John 17:21. This Spirit causes us to be echad. (More on this in a few minutes)
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Anointed, he is a renewed creature – the old matters have passed away, see, all matters have become renewed!
18 And all matters are from Elohiym, who has restored us to favour with Himself through Yahushua Anointed, and has given us the service of restoration to favour,
19 that is, that Elohiym was in Anointed restoring the world to favour unto Himself, not reckoning their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of restoration to favour.
20 Therefore we are envoys on behalf of Anointed, as though Elohiym were pleading through us. We beg, on behalf of Anointed: Be restored to favour with Elohiym.
2Co 5:17-20 – By this same spirit, we are made new creatures. Notice that we are not only reconciled to Yahushua but that we are also given the ministry of reconciliation. In the HalleluYah Scriptures verse 20 reads, “Therefore we are envoys on behalf of Mashiach, as though Elohim were pleading through us. We beg, on behalf of Mashiach: Be restored to favour with Elohim”. I suggest to you that this pleading to a wicked and perverse generation to be restored, this great love for the lost can only come through being a “Bar Yonah” a son of the Dove. A believer that has been given a portion of his Set-Apart Spirit – This love is unlike any that the world has to offer. Yonah, when he was spit from the belly of the fish (By Yahweh’s commandment) He went immediately to Nineveh – To do what? To warn a wicked and perverse generation! In Acts Chapter 6 and 7, Steven stands in the face of death to do the same. How could he do this? Acts 7:55 tells us. He was filled with the Ruach HaQodesh. It was by the power of the Dove! Is this a sign of the dove?
Mark 16:17 “And these signs shall accompany the ones who believe: In My Name they shall cast out demons, they shall speak with renewed tongues,
18 they shall take up snakes, and if they drink any deadly drink it shall by no means hurt them, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall get well.”
19 Then indeed, after the Master had spoken to them, He was received up into the sky, and sat down at the right hand of Elohiym.
20 And they went out and proclaimed it everywhere, while the Master worked with them, and confirmed the word through the accompanying signs. Amein.
In Mark 16:17-20 when the believers were commissioned they went out with signs. But if only one sign would be given what were these signs?
Joel 2:28 “And after this it shall be that I pour out My Spirit on all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men dream dreams, your young men see visions.
29 “And also on the male servants and on the female servants I shall pour out My Spirit in those days.
30 “And I shall give signs in the skies and upon the land: blood and fire and columns of smoke,
31 the sun is turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of Yahweh.
32 “And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Name of Yahweh shall be delivered. For on Mount Tsiyon and in Yerushalayim there shall be an escape as Yahweh has said, and among the survivors whom Yahweh calls.
Joel 2:28-32 – Tells us that in “These days” He will pour out His spirit on all flesh and signs and wonders would take place. Could these be “Signs of Yonah”? Signs of the Dove? Of the outpouring of the Ruach HaQodesh?
Let’s back up a little and look at the signs in Acts.
Acts 2:1 And when the Day of the Festival of Weeks had come, they were all with one mind in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from the sky, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and settled on each one of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Set-apart Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them to speak.
Acts 2:1-4 – We see an outpouring of His spirit – I propose a sign of Yonah – In verse 17 it confirms Joel 2:28-32.
Acts 2:25 “For Dawid says concerning Him, ‘I saw Yahweh before me continually, because He is at my right hand, in order that I should not be shaken.
26 ‘For this reason my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad, and now my flesh shall also rest in expectation,
27 because You shall not leave my being in the grave, nor shall You give Your Kind One to see corruption.
28 ‘You have made known to me the ways of life, You shall fill me with joy in Your presence.’
29 Men and brothers, let me speak boldly to you of the ancestor Dawid, that he died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
30 Being a prophet, then, and knowing that Elohiym had sworn with an oath to him: of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, to raise up the Anointed to sit on his throne,
31 foreseeing this he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Anointed, that His being was neither left in the grave, nor did His flesh see corruption.
32 Elohiym has raised up this Yahushua, of which we are all witnesses.
33 Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of Elohiym, and having received from the Father the promise of the Set-apart Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
Acts 2:25-33 – Peter (Kepha) tells us about the death and resurrection (Sign of Yonah) and then proceeds to show us the result is the outpouring of the spirit. Again – Is this a Sign of Yonah – the Dove?
Acts 4:29 “And now, Yahweh, look on their threats, and give to Your servants all boldness to speak Your word,
30 by stretching out Your hand for healing, and signs, and wonders to take place through the Name of Your set-apart Servant Yahushua.”
31 And when they had prayed, the place where they came together was shaken.
Acts 4:29-33 – We see another account of this outpouring – Notice in verse 32 that they were of one heart and mind?
Let’s look again at Yahushua’s prayer for us in John 17:6-26 particularly verses 11, 21, 22, 23, 26.
John 17:6 I have revealed Your Name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them to Me, and they have guarded Your Word.
7 Now they have come to know that all You gave to Me, is from You.
8 Because the Words which You gave to Me, I have given to them. And they have received them, and have truly known that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me.
9 I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.
10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I have been esteemed in them.
11 And I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Set-apart Father, guard them in Your Name which You have given Me, so that they might be one, as We are.
12 When I was with them in the world, I was guarding them in Your Name which You have given Me, and I watched over them, and not one of them perished except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be filled.
13 And now I come to You. And I speak these words in the world, so that they have My joy completed in them.
14 I have given them Your Word, and the world hated them because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the wicked one.
16 They are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
17 Set them apart in Your truth – Your Word is truth.
18 As You sent Me into the world, I also sent them into the world.
19 And for them I set Myself apart, so that they too might be set apart in truth.
20 And I do not pray for these alone, but also for those believing in Me through their word,
21 so that they all might be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, so that they too might be one in Us, so that the world might believe that You have sent Me.
22 And the esteem which You gave Me I have given them, so that they might be one as We are one,
23 I in them, and You in Me, so that they might be perfected into one, so that the world knows that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24 Father, I desire that those whom You have given Me, might be with Me where I am, so that they see My esteem which You have given Me, because You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, indeed the world did not know You, but I knew You, and these knew that You sent Me.
26 And I have made Your Name known to them, and shall make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me might be in them, and I in them.”
His desire was and is for us to be one (echad, a unified body and spirit, one heart and one mind).
When Yahushua called Kepha “Simon Bar Yonah” I believe it was because Kepha saw spiritual eyes – The eyes of the Dove – Therefore Yahushua called him Son of the Dove (one born into the Spirit).
John 16:7 But I say the truth to you. It is better for you that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you at all, but if I go, I shall send Him to you.
8 And having come, He shall reprove the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment –
9 concerning sin because they do not believe in Me,
10 concerning righteousness because I go to My Father and you see Me no more,
11 concerning judgment because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 I still have many words to say to you, but you are not able to bear them now.
13 But when He comes, the Spirit of the Truth, He shall guide you into all the truth. For He shall not speak from Himself, but whatever He hears He shall speak, and He shall announce to you what is to come.
14 He shall esteem Me, for He shall take of what is Mine and announce it to you.
And Finally John 16:7-14 – He says He would send the comforter and that this same one would Reprove the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment and that he would guide us into all truth. (Isn’t this what Yonah carried to Nineveh?) Is this comforter the one that carries the sign of Yonah to a wicked and perverse generation? There is only one sign given – Is this sign “The Sign of the Dove”? His set apart spirit?
If this is true, then how will we know the “Bar Yonah’s” of this generation?
The following is not meant to be an exhaustive list by any means. There are many more signs out there.
1) The “Bar Yonah’s” of this generation will be found feeding Yahushua’s sheep John 21:15-17
2) They will be of one heart and mind Acts 4:29-33
A unified spirit (echad) John 17:6-26
3) The lives of the Sons of the Dove should reprove the world concerning sin. (The way they live more than what they say) and should be guided by truth. John 16:7-14 Luke 11:32-33
4) They should bear the fruit of Galatians 5:22-23
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustworthiness,
23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no Torah.
5) They will be taught by the spirit. Matthew 16:17; Jeremiah 31:33-34
Matthew 16:17 And Yahushua answering, said to him, “Blessed are you, Shim’on Bar-Yonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father in the skies.
Jeremiah 31:33 For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’el after those days, declares Yahweh: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohiym, and they shall be My people.
34 And no longer shall they teach, each one his neighbour, and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know Yahweh,’ for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares Yahweh. “For I shall forgive their crookedness, and remember their sin no more.”
6) They should be a New Creature and envoys on behalf of Messiah (A heart for the lost) 2 Corinthians 5:17-20
7) Should have an earnest expectation and hope to be resurrected 1 Corinthians 15:12-23
1 Corinthians 15:12 And if Anointed is proclaimed that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Anointed has not been raised.
14 And if Anointed has not been raised, then our proclaiming is empty, and your belief also empty,
15 and we are also found false witnesses of Elohiym, because we have witnessed of Elohiym that He raised up Anointed, whom He did not raise up, if then the dead are not raised.
16 For if the dead are not raised, then neither Anointed has been raised.
17 And if Anointed has not been raised, your belief is to no purpose, you are still in your sins!
18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Anointed have perished.
19 If in this life only we have expectation in Anointed, we are of all men the most wretched.
20 But now Anointed has been raised from the dead, and has become the first-fruit of those having fallen asleep.
21 For since death is through a man, resurrection of the dead is also through a Man.
22 For as all die in Adam, so also all shall be made alive in Anointed .
23 And each in his own order: Anointed the first-fruits, then those who are of Anointed at His coming,
8) Sons of Yonah will operate within the body according to the gifts 1 Corinthians 12:12-31
9) The sons of the Dove will not walk in condemnation but instead, in righteousness of the Torah, believing Yahushua has condemned sin in the flesh – the Sons of the Dove walk in the Spirit Romans 8:1-9
Romans 8:1 There is, then, now no condemnation to those who are in Anointed Yahushua, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 For the Torah of the Spirit of the life in Anointed Yahushua has set me free from the law of sin and of death.
3 For the Torah being powerless, in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohiym, having His own Son in the likeness of flesh of sin, and concerning sin, condemned sin in the flesh,
4 so that the righteousness of the Torah should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the matters of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the matters of the Spirit.
6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace.
7 Because the mind of the flesh is enmity towards Elohiym, for it does not subject itself to the Torah of Elohiym, neither indeed is it able,
8 and those who are in the flesh are unable to please Elohiym.
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of Elohiym dwells in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Anointed, this one is not His.
10) They will declare the Name of Yahweh to those who fear Him. Psalms 22:22-25
Psalms 22:22 I make known Your Name to My brothers; In the midst of the assembly I praise You.
23 You who fear Yahweh, praise Him! All you seed of Ya’aqov, esteem Him, And fear Him, all you seed of Yisra’el!
24 For He has not despised Nor hated the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.
25 From You is My praise in the great assembly; I pay My vows before those who fear Him.
11) Isaiah 61:1-4 – Yahushua’s job description becomes ours too as Sons of the Dove.
Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Adon Yahweh is upon Me, because Yahweh has anointed Me to bring good news to the meek. He has sent Me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound,
2 to proclaim the acceptable year of Yahweh, and the day of vengeance of our Elohiym, to comfort all who mourn,
3 to appoint unto those who mourn in Tsiyon: to give them embellishment for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. And they shall be called trees of righteousness, a planting of Yahweh, to be adorned. 4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins, raise up the former wastes. And they shall restore the ruined cities, the wastes of many generations.
